Wicked Kids Activities for Halloween in Harrogate

Since the spooky season will soon be upon us I’ve created another handy round up of Halloween events in the Harrogate area for October half term and beyond.. From fantastic fireworks to creepy clowns, ideas for tiny terrors to older monsters, I’ve tried to cover all ages. If you are looking for pumpkin picking in Harrogate head to my separate blog.


Spooky Halloween Activities for Kids in Harrogate this October Half Term and beyond


Ghost Walks

  • Harrogate – The fantastic Paul Forster of The Harrogate Ghost Walk is hosting 4 special Halloween ghost walks in Harrogate. 24th – 25th & 30th -31st October. 8.15pm by the Pump Rooms. Whilst exploring the darker side of Harrogate you will discover gruesome murders, violent poltergeists and hear a collection of ghost stories that will leave you questioning your beliefs.

    £5 for children (U12) £8 for adults. Booking highly advised.


  • Knaresborough Knightmares is a specialist ghost walk that only pops up a couple of times a year. The Halloween edition is on the 29th October at 7pm and priced at £3 per person. Knaresborough has a rich store of folklore, including tales of hauntings and witchcraft. The tours bring many of these stories to life (or death), offering a fiendishly fun evening.


  • Ripon – an evening of ghost stories in the ancient city of Ripon. You’ll hear about a haunted cinema and the Cathedral’s mysterious bonehouse. The Ripon ghost walk sets off from the market square at 7pm on the 30th October priced at £6 for adults and £4 for under 16s.


Harrogate Stray Bonfire & Fireworks 2025

OK so this isn’t technically Halloween but it’s close and always draws a big crowd.

This year the bonfire and fireworks are on Saturday 8th November. Entertainment starts at 5pm, the bonfire is lit at 6:30pm and fireworks start around 7:15pm.

Get there early as is always gets busy and its a nightmare to get parked anywhere close!

This year the chose charity is St Michael's Hospice and visitors are asked to donate £5 where possible.


Autumn Lights

This year there will be another large firework display in Harrogate at the Yorkshire Showground on Monday 3rd November.

Autumn Lights is night of entertainment with Live Music, enjoy a family funfair, tuck into delicious street food and watch TWO spectacular firework displays choreographed to music.

Adults £14.99 | Children (4-16) £7.99 | Under 3’s FREE

Frightwater Valley

11th, 18th, 19th, 25th October –1st November

Head to Lightwater Valley in October half term for their ‘Valley of the Clowns’ Halloween Spooktacular.

This year’s twisted theme… colourful clowns with wicked grins and sinister surprises are waiting around every corner. Expect shivers, screams, grins and goose bumps as the Valley becomes their playground.

Early Bird tickets are available while they last at £15pp Tickets after that are likely to be £22.50 over 90cm and free for under 90cm.


Mother Shipton’s

They’re Creepy and They’re Kooky – 25th October to 2nd November

Mother Shipton’s is a great day out all year round but it really comes into its own at Halloween.

Creepy & Kooky is an event inspired by the world’s most delightfully dark family. Explore themed displays, take haunting photos, and meet live actors portraying a gruesome grandma, a mysterious mother, a dashing darkly-dressed gentleman, and their gothic daughter with a stare that chills…

Normal admission prices apply at £39 a car (5 people)


Scarewood House

Saturday 25th October – Sunday 2nd November 2025

It is the week of Halloween and the veil between the living and the dead is extremely thin. Once again, the ghosts of Harewood House have come out to play, but this year they have been struck with a terrible curse – they have been turned into scarecrows! Come and see our scare-ghosts in action! Can you find the culprit who played this terrible trick? And is there a way to end the spell?

Harewood House always has great activities for kids every half term. Day tickets are £19.00 Adults | £5.00 Children | Members FREE


RHS Harlow Carr

The Secret Life of Pumpkins featuring Zoolab Creepy Critters- Sat 25th October to Sunday 2nd November

Come and get up close and hands-on with some cool creepy critters as we explore how they interact with our precious pumpkins! Meet the likes of Snakes, Spiders and Snails in this fun adventure around this Halloween vegetable!

Ghosts in the Garden – York

19 September – Early November 2025 – Free Event

This year’s display in York is set to be bigger and better than ever, with 58 ghosts to discover in some of the city’s beautiful public gardens and green spaces. With 10 brand new ghosties added to the mix. From monks to Victorians, and cats to a famous highwayman, there’s plenty to discover while enjoying Ghosts in the Gardens.


Creature Critter Cruises

Creature Critter Cruises, An Autumn Adventure, Cruises Running All Half Term, Ripon Scenic Cruises.

Take a cruise on the canal with Ripon Scenic Cruises…one of our favourite local days out!

The family friendly autumn hunt for 2025 is back from Saturday 25th October – Sunday 2nd November inclusive. All tickets £6 to include a prize for every child up to 14 years. SEN suitable, disabled friendly and no scares in sight. 

Ghost Boat – a new trip for 2025! Creepy tales of the ghouls and hauntings from along the Canal. Suitable for ages 10 and over. Evenings from 5.30pm. £6 per person. 


Stockeld Park Halloween Adventure

Celebrate spooky season at Stockeld Park!

Complete a forest trail with the help of the Woodland Witches, go pumpkin picking, explore the Monster Maze and go to battle in the Laser Zombie Experience. Every October weekend and daily from the 25th October until 2nd of November 2025.

Expect to pay around £22.50pp with Playhive entry and £18.50pp without.


York Maze Hallowtween

12.30pm – 5.30pm, Sat 25th – Friday 31st October 2025. Not to be confused with their Hallowscream event, that’s definitely not one the faint at heart!

Hallowtween is for fearless 10-15yr olds and takes place within the grounds of the legendary former Dunnington Lodge at York Maze, one of the most haunted sites in the whole of Yorkshire. Nothing is what it seems and you will need to keep your wits about you as you experience all the shocks and thrills of the four Scare Houses; Corny’s Cornevil, The Singularity, The Flesh Pot and Necropolis!

PLUS there’s street theatre, LIVE stage performances, fairground rides (charged extra), meet the Halloween Owls and more to keep the whole family entertained as you take a breather in-between the chilling scares…ENTER IF YOU DARE! Tickets are £18.95pp.


Stump Cross Caverns

I love Stump Cross Caverns, especially when the weather is miserable because it’s under cover and a steady 7 degrees in the caves; sometimes warmer than outside!

They have Halloween trail for the kids which comes free with every child entry plus the usual fab activities like geode cracking, gem panning and fossil digs.

Prices vary depending on which activities you’d like to do but standard cave entry is £16 Adults | £11.50 Child | U4’s FREE.


Mama Doreen’s Halloween Afternoon Tea

It’s no secret that Izzy and I love afternoon tea at Mama Doreen’s. And this is a perfect activity for those who prefer all treats and no tricks.

Their Halloween afternoon tea starts on the 3rd October and runs until the 2nd November. And they are spoiling us with their deluxe afternoon teas at the moment. You’ll find the Wicked themed tea available from 29th August to 28th September AND their Sunday Roast afternoon tea from 31st August to 2nd November.

Their deluxe afternoon teas need to be pre-booked and cost £36.95 for adults and £15.00 children.


Fountains by Floodlight

Watch as night falls over the abbey and the ruins start to glow with light. Fountains by Floodlight is taking place on Saturday 25, Sunday 26, Friday 31 October and Saturday 1 November. Booking essential. Tickets for Fountains by Floodlight will go on sale on Friday 19 September.

Bring a torch and chase your shadows as you experience the abbey like never before. Join the volunteers for a guided twilight tour of the abbey. Head to the cellarium and hear live music flood through the ruin as darkness continues to fall.


Weboween

WEB80WEEN 11th October carnival rides, pumpkin patch, the Harrogate Fam, places to drink in harrogate

The Web is one of the best days out we’ve had and there’s so much going on during WEB’OWEEN. Visit on 11th, 12th, 18th, 19th of October and then 25th of October until 2nd of November for a SPOOK-tacular time!

Whiz around on unlimited fairground rides, compete with friends in the Laser Lightyear Game Zone, hop hop hop around on the two bouncing pillows, race down the giant astra slide, meet furry friends during the animal encounter sessions and let off steam inside the award-winning indoor play.

A full day of activities, from 9:30 AM until 6:00 PM, with EVERYTHING included in the admission ticket Adults £12.95 | Child £18.95 | Under 1’s £4.95


Once Upon a Nightmare: The Next Chapter – Lotherton Hall

This Halloween, Lotherton invites all thrill-seekers to step into the pages of twisted fairy tales where happily ever afters don’t exist. 24th – 31st October.

Once Upon a Nightmare: The Next Chapter is an immersive scare event, building on the success of their award-winning 2024 event, that transforms the serene grounds and gardens of Lotherton into a haunting world where your favourite fairy tale characters live out their darkest versions of reality. Suitable for ages 8+.

Lotherton also offer experiences for all ages including their tractor trailer ‘the Pumpkin Express’. Take a ride up to the secret pumpkin patch. Take part in craft activities, enjoy refreshments and pick up that all important pumpkin before the big day.


Halloween Hauntings at Temple Newsam

From Sat 25th Oct to Sun 2nd Nov see the house and farm dressed up for a truly spooktacular half term and enjoy creepy crafts, suitable for all the family to enjoy. Explore the house to discover its hidden histories and hear tales of spooky goings on from their spooktacular visitor assistant team.
