Wicked Kids Activities for Halloween in Harrogate

Since the spooky season will soon be upon us I’ve created another handy round up of Halloween events in the Harrogate area for October half term and beyond.. From fantastic fireworks to creepy clowns, ideas for tiny terrors to older monsters, I’ve tried to cover all ages. If you are looking for pumpkin picking in Harrogate head to my separate blog.
Spooky Halloween Activities for Kids in Harrogate this October Half Term and beyond
Ghost Walks
Harrogate – The fantastic Paul Forster of The Harrogate Ghost Walk is hosting 4 special Halloween ghost walks in Harrogate. 223rd – 24th & 30th -31st October. 8.15pm by the Pump Rooms. Whilst exploring the darker side of Harrogate you will discover gruesome murders, violent poltergeists and hear a collection of ghost stories that will leave you questioning your beliefs.
£5 for children (U12) £8 for adults. Booking highly advised.
Knaresborough Knightmares is a specialist ghost walk that only pops up a couple of times a year. The Halloween edition is on the 28th October at 7pm and priced at £3 per child & £6 per adult. Knaresborough has a rich store of folklore, including tales of hauntings and witchcraft. The tours bring many of these stories to life (or death), offering a fiendishly fun evening.
Ripon – an evening of ghost stories in the ancient city of Ripon. You’ll hear about a haunted cinema and the Cathedral’s mysterious bonehouse. The Ripon ghost walk sets off from the market square at 7pm on the 29th October priced at £6 for adults and £4 for under 16s.
Harrogate Stray Bonfire & Fireworks 2026
OK so this isn’t technically Halloween but it’s close and always draws a big crowd.
This year the bonfire and fireworks are on Saturday 7th November. Entertainment starts at 5pm, the bonfire is lit at 6:30pm and fireworks start around 7:15pm.
Get there early as is always gets busy and its a nightmare to get parked anywhere close!
This year the chose charity is St Michael's Hospice and visitors are asked to donate £5 where possible.
Frightwater Valley
10th, 17th, 23rd-31st October
Head to Lightwater Valley in October half term for their ‘Movie Mayhem’ Halloween Spooktacular.
This Halloween, Frightwater Valley is going to the movies… and things are about to get a little UN-REEL!
Roll out the blood-red carpet and step into MOVIE MAYHEM, where your favourite movie characters have escaped from the big screen and taken over the Valley.
From tiny boos to bigger scares, famous faces to ghostly games, tricks, treats and live entertainment, we’ve got a blockbuster day of Halloween fun waiting for the whole family.
Early Bird tickets are available while they last at £15pp Tickets after that are likely to be £22.00 over 90cm and free for under 90cm.
Mother Shipton’s
24th October to 1st November
Mother Shipton’s is a great day out all year round but it really comes into its own at Halloween.
Get ready to be spellbound this Halloween at Mother Shipton's in Knaresborough, Yorkshire. From 24th October to 1st November, join them for a bewitching adventure inspired by Hocus Pocus.
Normal admission prices apply at £42 a car (up to 5 people) reduced rates offered for pedestrian entries.
Spells and Sparkles at Harewood House

Get ready for a spellbinding family adventure at Harewood this autumn, where magical trails, woodland play and broomstick-making promise fun for the whole family.

RHS Harlow Carr
The Secret Life of Pumpkins featuring Zoolab Creepy Critters- Sat 24th October to Sunday 1st November
Come and get up close and hands-on with some cool creepy critters as we explore how they interact with our precious pumpkins! Meet the likes of Snakes, Spiders and Snails in this fun adventure around this Halloween vegetable!

Ghosts in the Garden – York
19 September – 1st November – Free Event
This year’s display in York is set to be bigger and better than ever, with 70 ghosts to discover in some of the city’s beautiful public gardens and green spaces. With 10+ brand new ghosties added to the mix. From monks to Victorians, and cats to a famous highwayman, there’s plenty to discover while enjoying Ghosts in the Gardens.
Stockeld Park Halloween Adventure
Every October weekend and all of Half Term
Celebrate spooky season at Stockeld Park!
Complete a forest trail with the help of the Woodland Witches, go pumpkin picking, explore the Monster Maze and go to battle in the Laser Zombie Experience.
Every October weekend and daily from the 24th October until 1st of November.
Expect to pay around £26.50pp with Playhive entry and £22.50pp without. New this year they now offer late entry tickets from 2pm for £16.75.

York Maze Hallowtween
12.30pm – 5.30pm, Sat 24th – Saturday 31st October.
Not to be confused with their Hallowscream event, that’s definitely not one the faint at heart!
Hallowtween is for fearless 10-15yr olds and takes place within the grounds of the legendary former Dunnington Lodge at York Maze, one of the most haunted sites in the whole of Yorkshire. Nothing is what it seems and you will need to keep your wits about you as you experience all the shocks and thrills of the four Scare Houses; Corny’s Cornevil, The Singularity, The Flesh Pot and Necropolis!
PLUS there’s street theatre, LIVE stage performances, fairground rides (charged extra), meet the Halloween Owls and more to keep the whole family entertained as you take a breather in-between the chilling scares…ENTER IF YOU DARE! Tickets are £22.95pp.
Stump Cross Caverns
I love Stump Cross Caverns, especially when the weather is miserable because it’s under cover and a steady 7 degrees in the caves; sometimes warmer than outside!
They have Halloween trail for the kids which comes free with every child entry plus the usual fab activities like geode cracking, gem panning and fossil digs.
Prices vary depending on which activities you’d like to do but standard cave entry is £16.50 Adults | £12 Child | U4’s FREE.
Fountains by Floodlight
Watch as night falls over the abbey and the ruins start to glow with light. Fountains by Floodlight is taking place on 9th-10th, 16th-17th, 23rd-24th and 29th-30th October. Entry from 5pm. Booking essential.

Bring a torch and chase your shadows as you experience the abbey like never before. Join the volunteers for a guided twilight tour of the abbey. Head to the cellarium and hear live music flood through the ruin as darkness continues to fall.
Weboween
The Web is one of the best days out we’ve had and there’s so much going on during WEB’OWEEN. Visit on 10th, 11th, 17th, 18th of October and then 25th of October until 1st of November for a SPOOK-tacular time!
Whiz around on unlimited fairground rides, compete with friends in the Laser Lightyear Game Zone, hop hop hop around on the two bouncing pillows, race down the giant astra slide, meet furry friends during the animal encounter sessions and let off steam inside the award-winning indoor play.

Spellbound at Lotherton Hall
24th October - 1st November
Every autumn the witches of Lotherton cast a special charm together, the Keeping Charm, that gathers the last of the summer's warmth and stores it so the village comes through winter. But this year, their heartwarming hex has come undone and its ten words have scattered, one to each witch across the estate.
Using your very own 'spellbook', search the estate to find the ten willow arches belonging to each witch - together with the scattered words. Gather all ten to mend the charm back at the great cauldron.
An hex-citing adventure for young and old!

Halloween Hauntings at Temple Newsam
From Sat 24th Oct to Sun 1st Nov see the house and farm dressed up for a truly spooktacular half term and enjoy creepy crafts, suitable for all the family to enjoy. Explore the house to discover its hidden histories and hear tales of spooky goings on from their spooktacular visitor assistant team.
